In 2023, a lot will change legally in the field of meal packaging. This has major consequences for the entire chain. On this page you can read all about the Single Use Plastic (SUP) legislation and the "Uitgebreide Producenten Verantwoordelijkheid" (UPV, Extended Producer Responsability). 

From January, due to the new legislation, it might be the case that we pass on surcharges to our partners and/or customers. You may see surcharges on your invoice. In our price lists you can easily find out which surcharges apply to which products. Are you an end consumer and do you receive delivery through a partner wholesaler? Then it is up to the wholesaler to determine whether these taxes and/or surcharges will be passed on to you.  Ask your wholesaler for more information. 

All packaging around our products will be charged. Previously you saw nothing of this, in 2023 we will still pay for it for you. 

If it concerns point-of-sale packaging of our brands Duni or BioPak, we will charge you the contribution on these products. A point-of-sale packaging is defined as: Packaging intended for packaging, which is filled at the point of sale or added to the product. Such as bags, trays and cups.

For the time being, our Duniform range does not fall within the above definition. We do not pay  a waste fee for these products. This obligation falls later in the chain, for example at the wholesaler, food processor or caterer.

This is a surcharge that will apply to portion packs. This surcharge has been set by the Dutch government at €2.30 per 1000pcs.  and applies to all meal packaging intended for direct consumption. Namely drinking cups, dimensionally stable SUP food packaging, flexible SUP food packaging and carrier bags (<50 microns). 
Criteria that are used to determine whether a packaging falls under the SUP regulations:

1. Intended for immediate consumption?
2. Is the product typically consumed from the container?  
3. Is it ready for consumption without further preparation, such as baking, cooking or heating? 
4. Additional criterion from EU Guideline: Does packaging tend to become litter?
