Building blocks of plastic waste

Ivory Coast is dealing with a large influx of plastic waste that pollutes the beaches. Unicef set up an innovative chain in which the washed up plastic waste is converted into “BRICKS” in a factory; plastic building blocks used for the construction of solid school buildings.

Together we make the difference

UNICEF involves underprivileged women who are trained in collecting and processing plastic and are taught about cooperation and entrepreneurship. These women sell the plastic at a fair price, enabling them to build a better future for their families.

Unicef uses plastic waste to create a sustainable and functional product, helping to improve both the environment and the lives of the people of Ivory Coast.
